This is another idea that I have had on numerous occasions. Echmiadzin, which I describe as the "Vatican of Armenia" could be given independence. I must admit, the reasons I have for doing this are not very impressive, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are not worthwhile. Armenia will celebrate the 1,700th anniversary of its official conversion to Christianity by Surp Krikor Luisavorich (St. Gregory the Illuminator). The church could be given an independent piece of land at that time (or any time). The advantages of this would be the geographical interest it would add to Armenia, the extra U.N. seat, the church would have that much more freedom to be less influenced by political forces, and well, why not? Echmiadzin is a beautiful complex, and with a little additional land would be just fine on its own in the middle of Armenia. Like the Vatican it could print its own money and stamps, it could do all the normal country things. Also, like the Vatican and San Marino increase tourism to Italy, and like Monaco increases tourism and interest in Southern France, this could give a little boost to Armenian Tourism.
This idea is pretty closely related to the Brand New Assyria idea.
