Shopping in Armenia

When I first moved to Yerevan almost nine years ago, shopping was not the easiest thing to do. From clothing/shoes to groceries, I always felt like I was missing something from back home. Armenia has come a long way since then. Dozens of franchises have sprung up across the city and just yesterday Aldo Shoes opened up it’s (very large) doors on Abovian Street. Shoe shopping just became a lot easier. Now if they would just hurry up and open a Trader Joes!

  1. Arina, may I ask you what do you mean by:
I always felt like I was missing something from back home.
    it seems you missed MACY’S…lol

    • Nope – fortunately for Macy’s fans – there’s an outlet here. But you do make a good point – home is no longer the US. It’s here!

  2. Yep, the variety of stores that has sprung up is definitely welcomed. I just discovered two new stores (one shoe and two clothing) yesterday. Finding stores that strike a nice balance between affordable and quality/fashionable seems to be getting better, though we still have a ways to go.

And while we don’t have a Trader Joes here, thanks to NGOs like Shen and Green Lane, we do have organic grocery delivery services at knock out prices.
