CNN XforgetsX REMEMBERS the Armenian Genocide...

I didn't catch Christiane Amanpour's new CNN genocide documentary, "Scream Bloody Murder," on TV tonight, but according to the ANCA, the Armenian Genocide was completely excluded. When will this second class genocide victim status end? I guess CNN is afraid that CNN-Turk will be cut off the air if they include the Armenians... how very, very sad.

Take action, now.

UPDATE!!!! Apparently the DID mention the Armenians at the beginning. The ANCA report seems to be wrong. I don't know if they actually said genocide in regards to Armenians, but anyway, they were not completely excluded at least. -Dec. 5, 2008

The CNN documentary started with a review of Raphael Lemkin and how he came to coin the word 'genocide' and push for the Genocide Convention. This segment made clear that Lemkin was influenced by the 'mass killing of a million Armenians by the Turks during WW1' and showed some of the photographs of dead Armenians as well as headlines from newspapers of the day.

The segment lasted about 2 minutes.

Obviously not enough but still important. In particular given the treatment of other genocides and the focus on individuals who tried to help it would have been fitting to mention Ambassador Morgenthau.

I was disappointed that she did not spend a whole segment of her documentary on the Armenian Genocide. But from the beginning, when talking about the word, Lempkin was influenced by the Armenian Genocide and Holocaust that he had to create a word for it.
