A Few Good Men
Today, I decided to go buy myself a Christmas gift from Zig Zag. While we were waiting for the car to warm up, a man walked by selling car air fresheners. Of course we decided to buy one, so I took out my wallet from my jacket's pocket to get 100 drams. We went to ZigZag and did our shopping, and time came to pay. I put my hand in my pocket, and my wallet wasn't there! I went down to the car and looked EVERYWHERE... no wallet. Immediately, I told Dav, maybe people found it and gave it inside, but he said, "where do you think you are? this is Hayasdan!". I was so disappointed in myself. 2 years ago today my purse was stolen... and now my wallet is gone?! Anyway, I went back upstairs to tell the sales guy I wasn't gonna buy anything. When we came down, we noticed 3 men following us. Just as we were stepping out, a few workers approached us with the wallet, and those 3 men said they were the ones who found it and turned it into the employees. I was sooooooooo happy!!! I couldn't believe that people were nice enough to return my wallet, which had money, cards, and stuff in there! I wanted to hug those men!!! Instead, Dav and I took those 3 men from Abovian to eat khngali as a thank you! We also bought a cake for the ZigZag emloyees.... It was so encouraging to find out there are good people around!
So Hayasdan has honest and good people too... just like anywhere else. To all those pessimists who don't believe in this country.... a big :)~

i think a lot of people are negative about stuff like this in armenia. My experiences have generally shown that getting things stolen in armenia happens less than here in the UK for example...and when my cousin did lose her phone, the person who "stole" it , returned it and apologised...so yea..
Hayasdan has honest and good people too...
But I felt bad that before this you had another opinion:(
I've kept track of how many wallets I've found and returned in Armenia. The owners have always been in shock.
Shooosh, you never mentioned. Did you end up getting something for yourself? :-) Or was treating khngali fulfilling enough. Man, I wish I found your wallet.
I've also heard of foreigners losing a wallet and locals tracking them down to return it, so it is no surprise to me at all.
I remember once I was shopping with a local guy and put my shopping bag from another shop at the entrance to the store we were entering. He said, "you can't leave that there, this isn't America, someone will steal it". He'd never been to America and this comment of course cracked me up... but more importantly, it was completely out of sync with my experiences there.
Haha... yes, I did buy myself something. But you have to come visit me in order to find out what. :) hehe
And ya, I do sometimes feel like people are out to get each other in Armenia, because that's been the MAJORITY of my experiene (and the experience of others). But I'm optimistic, and I looooooove the fact that I'm wrong!
my brother FORGOT his nice, new camera somewhere once and when he returned on the off chance it was still there the woman who found it gave it back to him for a little finders fee. lol
"So Hayasdan has honest and good people too..." What a lovely compliment! I'm sure Hayastantsis will be thrilled to hear this. But what made you think that all of us are crooks? Our crime rate? Isn't it much higher in America? If you lose your wallet in, say, New York of LA, what is your chance of finding it? It's not zero, is it? There must honest and good people in America too.

I think you completely missed her point. She DIDN'T think that way. On the contrary her FIRST thought was "maybe someone found it and turned it in". Now that's a pretty optimistic reaction ESPECIALLY since not only was her purse and wallet stolen in Armenia 2 years ago there was also a similar incident back in 1997. Now, that's merely two incidents that I know of and who knows there could have been others and yet she still managed to stay positive.
Any other person would have written off Armenia, never returned and forever spoken negatively about their experiences. Shoosh not only went back to visit she even moved there and is and has always been a proponent of Armenia's image when others try to deface it.
So I think you misunderstood the point here. Despite her past experiences she was STILL more optimistic about the return of her wallet (even more so than her "deghatzi" fiance) and in the end FINALLY her optimism paid off, but believe me even if here wallet wasn't returned this time around either she still wouldn't have joined the pessimist camp whom she gave a big : )~ too at the end of her blog.
Shoosh, may I offer you a khrad? I can't help but notice a trend here so "ararganeroot aveli lav der tartseer" ha ha!
Dear Anonymous...
"Yedis antsir PESSIMIST yev GRVARAR" lol
Dude, CHILLLLLLLL.... Lori's right, if I thought there were only yucky people in the Stan, WHY WOULD I MOVE HERE SMARTY???
Anyhow :)~~~~ to you too then! :)
It's amazing how many assumptions people can make, and how much that isn't there they can read into a simple story...
Shnorhavor on your wallet recovery Shoosh! :-)
Raff... when you come back, I owe u a pecan pie! (I'll make it 2, as interest for the delay--SORRY!)
