New England Anti Defamation League Head Andrew Tarsy Fired by ADL Headquarters for Stance on Armenian Genocide

"...If the national ADL doesn't acknowledge the genocide, it is complicit in a coverup."- Boston Globe Editorial (August 18, 2007)

Amazing, but true, the story just keeps getting more interesting. Read all about it, HERE.

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz and State Representative Rachael Kaprelian wrote a joint piece HERE.

The Globe has another piece in the form of an editorial, HERE.

You gotta give Andrew Tarsy some (not all, though) credit, after looking like an ass for a better part of one month toting the ADL party line in denying the Armenian Genocide, he finally had enough and broke ranks with Abraham Foxman and the National ADL Headquarters. Well, the difference of opinion with an organization that preaches "tolerance" cost him his job.

I can't believe this story has spiraled so out of control like this! It's funny how up until now Armenians have had to fight and slog through the mud to get even an ounce of publicity for our cause, all the while the dreaded spectre of the Jewish lobby looming over us making sure we don't get anywhere and appeasing Turkey. This time, it's Armenians who are sitting back not having to do a thing (except making a great turn out at Tuesday's town meeting) as we watch the ADL literally implode on the cover of a major newspaper! And all the while it's talked about on blogs, I've seen many and can tell you 100% of them have been pro-Armenian. I have not seen one ounce of pro-ADL sentiment from anyone.
I know we've had our problems in the past, but I hope that all Armenians are reading these things, such as the blog entries at Jewcy.com. This particular one http://www.jewcy.com/feature/2007-08-15/foxman_should_apologize
has a good two pages of comments, almost all from Jews, which are 100% in support of Armenians and recognizing the genocide. I've seen this kind of sentiment all over the blogosphere. The outpouring has been amazing, and we have people like Tarsy and his band of former ADL local leaders saying they will be pushing for HR 106! All at a time when we are about to enter September which should be when hopefully the bill gets put before Congress. The way things are all lining up is just amazing. Even if some ridiculous thing gets in the way of passage once again, it's clear that over the past decade we Armenians have made leaps and bounds towards recognition. A lot of ignorance remains, but the support we see (and the place we are seeing it from!) is insanely diverse and encouraging. It took almost 100 years but the silence is finally being broken.

Meanwhile, it should be quite some fun watching as the ADL continues to spiral out of control. Having instituted an ultimatum of "don't recognize the genocide or you're out" with Tarsy as a martyr already, we can hope for and might just get a slew of other resignations. It's being predicted by some, while the blog Jewcy.com predicts this whole thing ending in Foxman's own resignation (which apparently a LOT of Jews have been hoping for for a long time). Who would have EVER thought the leader of the ADL would be potentially brought down by, of all things, an Armenian issue?!

Actually Paul, it's kind of sad to me. The ADL used to stand for something meaningful and the "No Place for Hate" campaign is a great teaching tool. In fact, that program should stay, but, be independent from the ADL as it has now been exposed as being a political tool.

What is very clear to me is that the Jewish community has it out for Foxman even more than Armenians for issues that go beyond the Armenian Genocide. It sounds like there has been a history and a disconnect between the ADL and the greater Jewish community.

It's true, they've turned on Foxman like nothing else. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back, or at least where they found the weakness to go in for the kill.
I'm not laughing as the ADL burns or anything, I hope they can move on without Foxman intact and continue the good aspects of their program, though Jews and non-Jews alike say the ADL hasn't been what it used to for some time and now is representative with the extreme Jewish right and all that's wrong with it. As you mentioned, we certainly don't need an organization with such ulterior motives to be the guaranteeor of our hate-free society and most of these towns could do it on their own too, as they should.
