Tidbits

Little items that aren't enough for their own posts...

* There is a new Norwegian internet company here, with genuine Norwegians :-) They worked a year to get going and are now offering businesses a 1Mb down/256 up dedicated line for around $400 a month if I understand correctly. This represents something like a 10x drop in price! It is also just the beginning. Prices are going to drop very quickly now, and I'm looking forward to wireless being available all over (don't believe Arminco that says it already is - it is decidedly not)

* My god this cheesecake is good!

* I can't complain at all about the weather since I've been back - relative to how it could have been. I have just been heading out in jeans and a t-shirt, with a good jacket on. But relative to southern California and Mexico, it's ridiculous. I still say we need to buy a huge chunk of untouched Baja peninsula in Mexico and build an Armenian city there.

* The Northern Avenue (and Main Avenue to some extent) has made a lot of progress. They have also posted drawings of what the buildings on the Republic Square end of the N. Avenue will look like, and I daresay, that end is going to look pretty nice. Much better than the Opera end.

* Prices in Yerevan are really getting excessively high. Restaurants are raising prices in dram, despite the fact that the dollar is falling (meaning they were already making more in dollars). They are still pretty full though - even now in the winter, so this of course simply means we need more restaurants and competition. There are still places where you can eat for two bucks.

* I used sleeping pills here and there to help me adjust to the time change. Man, jet lag is no fun!

those are great news items, internet speed going up and price down is one of the best things that can happen for Armenia's economy and future. Also Garen's cheesecake production in Armenia is an example of how production from the US can be mimicked in armenia with great results for people's choice of food and the country's economic growth as this can also be an export item.

On a side note i'd like to draw your attention to yesterday's article in armenialiberty.org which explains why flight tickets to Armenia, import items and fuel prices are soooo expensive compared with other countries. The main reason again is the gov't connected MONOPOLY of aviation and imports. More specifically Armavia which has defacto monopoly of freight shipped by air is controlled by Mikhail Baghdasarov who is a Serzh Sarkisian protégé just like the rest of the import monopolies such as oil and sugar. Serge’s republican party having control in Armenia can be several more years of nightmare.

Hi Dzmeroog, I did not see the article you mentioned. As for internet, yes, it's great, and I think it will drop again by almost 10x in price...

Arsineh, if you don't eat the cheesecake quickly, you risk losing it!
