Elections Elections Everywhere! Which Means What and Who Really Cares?
France in a month, Armenian Parliament in 3, USA in 20. My head is spinning. What blows my mind, as my roommate has been pondering lately, is that while the French presidential elections are around the corner, few international news agencies are even covering it. Meanwhile, Clinton and Obama appear in the same place and it's headline news for days. They have 20 MONTHS!!!!!
Well, I can't say I'm that surprised. But to keep some sort of humanity in me, I like to maintain shock to such insanity to remind myself that these people are NUTS! and though this has become the norm, it is by far not normal. That's a generic statement that applies in this case.
So Frenchies, all of you out there, please inform us since the news nuts aren't. What's France like leading up to these elections?
As for Armenian elections, time will tell. The opposition is splintered and until a major movement comes from the people, or serious implementation of election fraud prevention takes place, we are destined to face the same corruption as before. On that note, I heard that Kocharian has approved 400 observers from France I think, but I haven't read it anywhere.
And some thoughts on the US elections... so we have on the Democrat side: Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Biden, etc. and on the Republican side: McCain, Juliani (is he official yet? CNN was talking as if he's ahead of McCain in polls, wasn't sure if that was just a hypothetical poll or real) and who really cares. The bottom line is that all the attention is on the Democratic candidates and the front runners are a woman and an African-American. I never thought I'd see this. I'm not one to vote for a woman or an African-American just for the sake of it, but I'm also not ready to vote for McCain right now given his recent years of shifting further to the right, and Juliani, I just don't know yet. He's far left enough for a Republican, but we'll just have to see.
No updates on the Armenian Genocide resolution, however the ANCA will be hosting an Advocacy day in Washington along with Genocide Intervention Network that's worth consideration. You can get all the info at: http://www.anca.org/stopgenocide/. They'll probably need all the help they can get as a tremendous amount of pressure has been building up from Turkish lobbyists and its sympathizers with the big bucks, but little constituency, so we will have to fight giants with numbers. It does seem that with all the talk of genocide in the news, this resolution is drawing some unusual attention, and one particular article stood out as completely dispicable, titled "Pimp my Genocide" implying that people are throwing the word around like crazy to get attention. It couldn't just be because genocide is actually taking place, could it? We just like the attention, that's right. You've GOT to be kidding me.

Really sorry to inform that, like the rest of the world, coming elections in France are going totally nuts too !
What the hell could be expected :
- a finishing President that should normaly go to jail but just managed to wash it all clean thanks to its men at the Conseil Constitutionnel (Chirac),
- 3 major candidates specialists of PR & marketing stuff but whose program is getting more and more confused (Sarkozy representing the party in the Gvt, Bayrou for the middle ones, and Royal the so-called brand new candidate personified in a woman but who represents the usual social opposition the party of Mitterand),
- an eternal racist-fascist who is always so sadly good to sell his *** ideas (Le Pen),
- a crazy kind of ancient monarchist but who is incredibly listened (De Villiers),
- and all the social-communists extremes who agree to change everything but can’t manage to unite in naming one representative for this election (Bové, Besancenot, Laguillier, Buffet and many overs whose name I can’t even remember).
Most of the french are totally hopeless about this vote, and don’t know who to choose.
Armenians are running after promises of the major candidates and for the moment, Royal’s camp (parti socialiste) has the best advance as the actual Gvt still refuse to put the law for penalisation of negationism at the Senate agenda.
The 2nd tour of these elections will take place during a period where probably many French would be on vacation, and of course this date has been chosen on purpose because of the big failure of the last referendum about EU.
Lots of sad news around all this…
And that’s only a poor sum up of the situation, la politique… crazy game! I'll go to vote and I know for who, as the less worse choice, but it’s really not my cup of tea: I except nothing from it.
This is why you’ll understand that over stimulating things interest me more ;o)
