Hayko at Eurovision 2007

Surprise, surprise ... Hayko is representing Armenia at Eurovision 2007 in Helsinki.

If "Anytime You Need" is going to be the Eurovision song, Hayko will not even make the first cut. Given his English is heavily accented, you need to make up for that with up tempo and creative melodies. This song is a bland, slow to mid-tempo snoozefest that actually highlights his deficiencies, rather than hides them.

I hope it isn't too late to retool the song, or just pick another one if they have settled on Hayko.

I heard him get interviewed on H1, and he said he's not changing his song because that is his style. Uhhh, Hayko... let's see what he has going...
1) not young and "hip"
2) boring song
3) HORRIBLE accent

Sorry buddy... and ya.. what was that "mock" voting thing? lol As if we didn't all know he was chosen already.

It was a no brainer that someone like Silva Hakopyan should've gone.

absolutely ridiculous. Last year i set up a large website andreforarmenia.com promoting armenia's entry, andre and everything that had been done. I cannot even bring myself to promote something that I myself would never listen to, would laugh at, and certainly would never consider as a victory for eurovision .

It's quite embarrassing that this song/artist was chosen, it's even more embarrassing when people abroad are making really nasty comments about it on various forums on the net.

They're laughing at his accent, they're laughing at the production, and they’re laughing at how boring the song is.

There was a press conference that was shown on the news, and a journalist asked Hayko, "Don't you feel that this is not the right song to go to Eurovision with?", and Hayko's answer was something along the lines of, "I don't care, I will not change the song."

Good god no, anyone but Hayko!! How much more humiliation can Armenia take, it was bad enough last year with Andre, I can only imagine how much worse its going to be this year :-(((

This is just too hilarious not to mention. Taken from an article published on www.doteurovision.com regarding Hayko's entry:

"On the face of it, Andre's record should remain untarnished. Hayko will perform 'Anytime You Need' in a language that bears striking similarities to English."

Have you heard the other Armenian candidates for Eurovision? I didn't hear any other song that would be better. I agree, this is not the best choice...Armenians could have done better.
but..why do people always cling to the accent? It's just because we always demand too much! I wonder how would we all feel if Verka Serdyuchka(The Ukrainian entry) represented our country. The accent would be the last thing to criticize.

Liana - the thing about Eurovision and music in general, is that it can be in any language. If you can't sing in English without a very heavy accent, then why not sing in Armenian?? It doesn't make sense to me, since the point is to represent Armenia anyway.

raffi k.-I agree with your point, but another thing is that they say the song had better be in English for the audience to pick it up easily...
I would feel proud to hear Armenian from the stage, but the choice is made now, and nothing's left to do but be a little optimistic and supportive.

I was disappointed when i heard the song also. It's so slow, I don't think the public will buy it. But the song dosen't suck it's just not right for the competition. As for his accent, common Andre had a worst accent than Hayko, besides alot of the singers have awful accents. Anyway as Liana said all we can do now is just support our candidate. Woohoo go Hayko!

Any comments I come across regarding Hayko’s song, I see a critic about his accent. Why does everyone suppose that he or anyone participating in EV must have no accent when singing in English? Hayko is Armenian why on earth should he have no English accent? Guys I really don’t get the point. If you made any critics about the song being less dynamic than it should have been to attract one’s attention and to keep the audience engaged I personally would agree but I don’t see why he or anyone shout speak/sing English without any accent. Could an Englishman speak Armenian? They can’t even pronounce the surname Khachaturian. They go is Aram kachachurian Armenian?
