Vigil for Hrant Dink

Approximately 100 Armenians from Armenia and the Diaspora gathered together at Aznavour Square in downtown Yerevan to mourn the death of Hrant Dink and express their outrage towards the tragedy. See photos below.

I would think that a commemoration should have been organized (by the public) in Tsitsernakaberd.

Harder to get to, I suppose, but perhaps fitting. Anyway, what struck me most about yesterday's events was how few recognizable political figures were present. I saw just two at last night's vigils for example from both sides of the political divide although perhaps Arsineh can correct that if I missed them as I stayed only for about 30 or 40 minutes.

Anyway, I don't know. I suppose I'd have expected some major political faces to come along even on a personal level, but as I said I saw only two. Was there anyone else there that I missed or who came after I left? Well, maybe something official will be organized in the next few days. Unlikely to happen, but a simultaenous event to mourn Dink in Yerevan and Istanbul would be appropiate, I think.

It would also be a real sign that the Turkish authorities are willing to recognize that it needs to do more in reaching out to Armenians. It needed to anyway, but it especially needs to do so now.

That is taking place tomorrow. This was just the beginning of many events over the next few days.

Hope you'll post details for everbody to know about what events are staged and when. One problem about yesterday's events, for example, were that had you not informed me, I would not have known.

This is a significant issue that needs to be addressed for all events planned and staged in Armenia. It's just so difficult to get information about them before they happen, and in this case incidently, blogs are going to get reports of the events out there quicker than the print and online media.

Anyway, events of this significance need to be announced and people need notice. So far I haven't seen any information on what's planned, where they'll be hed, and when. Hope you can post all that stuff if others aren't. Thanks in advance.

Oops. Just seen this now. Anyway, I would suggest such anouncements are made as separate posts. I mean, there must be more readers than just I in Armenia who would like to know what is happening, where and when.

Cheers.
