Hayerene Djisht Khosink

I just received this link from a friend regarding how incorrect we speak the Armenian language.

One of the few commercials I co-produced earlier this year was regarding this topic, but geared towards local Armenians (Eastern Armenian.) And to this day I receive comments regarding this issue.

Anyway, it's pathetic, but quite funny. Enjoy!

whatever! most armenians cant even speak to the incorrect degree, before we start criticising that!

this kind of stuff is a major reason why young armenians are embarrassed to try and speak their native language.

ok we sometimes get grammar wrong, but to be fair, we have two versions of our language going on at the same time...

verj es himarutiunerin!!!!

:P

Give me a break dude, who said anything about people feeling embarrassed?

I see this as a blow to Armenians who receive a proper education in the Armenian language (in this case Mid East Armenians), yet speak like this.

According to your comment, I should understand that the social-issues-awareness clips I've been producing over the past year was a way of me mocking the general public of Armenia.

Harout,
I second paragraph of your comment is so true, I forwarded it the site to about 15 people and am getting all the funny remarks accepting that its true some of them still express themselves this way even though they had a top Armenian Ed in their country and no you're not putting anyone down. I had it on twice yesterday and laughed all the way, as I still hear people talk this way. All the best..

Der Hova: It's called SLANG versus PROPER SPEECH.

Trust me, those Middle East Armenians who receive Armenian education can speak proper Armenian, but what you heard on that radio program was slang. In the case of Western Armenians, our slang consists of Turkish, French, and Arabic words.

It's with Armenians eductaed in North America where the problem comes in. They speak in slang, without even knowing how to speak in proper Armenian.

This radio program should be aired in North America, not Lebanon.

(By the way, I've had this "Hayerene Jisht Khosink" link up on my MySpace profile for a few weeks now and I credit its rise in popularity to myself. lol)

I love you make your point ironically by using faulty English: "how incorrect we speak"

anonymous next time don't be afraid to post a name. By the way, thank you for stating, in your faultless English, you love me :-) Or did you mean to say something else?

to karnig, I never stated whether it was slang or proper speech.

I didn't think people would take this issue so damn seriously, RELAX ALREADY! No one stated a law should be passed to hang people who speak this way. Vay mama jan.

Michael says,

It's been normal for Armenians to use street lingo wherever they happen to live.
Take Sayat Nova songs and you'll find next to 18th century Armenian, Arabic, Persian, Azeri, Hindi words, all making the superb love songs that we inherited.
This occurs to all nations that are dispersed to the four corners of the world.
Nothing to be ashamed of, Language is a tool to communicate, sometimes we misuse this tool..... but, as usual, if we happen to be unfamiliar with the mixing of languages with Armenian it sure sounds weird!
So long as "The correct spoken Armenian is thought" we should not worry too much LOL!
