I hope it's not permanent, because that's just retarded. You don't announce a contest, appoint a committee, raise all the fuss, and then change your mind.

I think Mer Hayrenik will stand until Khachaturyan's gets new words to it, which is not a bad idea.

By then, the ARF will probably be out of the government too...

Good. Time to get something new that doesn't have any historical baggage - Soviet, Tashnag or whatever. Although, a few decades from now they'll probably say that the new one belonged to the oligarchs.

let's see what happens in a year:)

ANOTHER YEAR WITH THE SAME HYMN
[06:33 pm] 26 October, 2006; A1+ News

Today, the RA Government endorsed the draft law on the “RA Hymn” with slight changes.

It will be introduced in the RA National Assembly by due order.

The government didn’t support the decision of the Competition Board to accept the music without the text.

Under the government’s decision, the current hymn will be in force one more year by the time the new hymn (with its corresponding words and music) is stipulated by law.

Mer Hayrenik along with the Tricolor Flag are the 2 symbols which kept the dream and ideal of an independant Armenia alive during Soviet rule... Even though, it was the ARF as a political force in exile which valued these 2 symbols during those long years, they both belong to the Armenian Nation... Changing any of them would be an insult to the our nation... Armenians in Armenia haven't fully understood the difficulties faced by Armenians in the Diaspora to keep the ideal of an independant Armenia alive, which explains why some "xx-heads" in Yerevan suddenly coming up with the genius idea of changing the anthem... As if all problems in Armenia have been resolved... Let them first concentrate on the bastardized Armenian language they use every day... fix the problem of corruption among bureaucrats and others, get rid of all the garbage on the streets, etc. As you can see the list is LONG... Leave the anthem and the flag as is... they are symbols of who we are!

In my opinion, Tashnags should enduringly sideline from this mainstream Armenian issue, as they have a traditional platform of clinging on to the past. It seems that their entire political platform seems to be some dark previous appeal of the rifle and war cannon. I don’t appreciate that, as such a approach in policy hurts the average local Armenian mindset. We need new, diplomatic and progressively unsullied energy in the Tashnag party, balanced leadership that will motivate productivity upon all classes. Synergy that will extend an olive branch to the local people and other parties. My father is a traditionalist Tashnag, living in the Valley in Southern California. He and his party pals are fairly displeased with the current Armenian government and always calls for the aggressive overtaking of Armenia’s current policies. It such a waist of time, but many young Diasporas Tasnag members love to hear that type of fervor from the party leadership. He says to me the other day, Son “Power is not given in Armenia, it is only taken by force”. Oh yes father, power that will be taken and perpetually distributed to the Armenian population fairly, to get rid of red corruption and old world grudges…how reassuring and wonderfull, father. On this issue, I personally think, its time to get rid of that sad, dark anthem, but don’t take my word for it as I do not live in and represent Armenia.

It's about time...Changing a country's national anthem??? I mean...Doesn’t that show weakness, instability etc.??? Imagine some Member of Parliament gets up today and wants to change "O Canada"…People over here would be FUMING….I mean, it just won't happen...I know all the fuss was created with a panel etc. etc...but honestly...I think it was a dumb idea to begin with...The government at the time ('91) decided to keep the anthem the same, and changing it would just be odd...I'd love to see "The Star Spangled Banner" changed to something else...BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

“Ammen Mekhkous Vrah”, they chose the old Soviet tune….WHAT THE HELL?!? We’re trying to rid the country from communism, yet we choose to reinstate the old Soviet Anthem’s tune…IT’S JUST PLAIN STUPID! I’m glad certain political parties still have the balls and patriotism not to go back to the communist way…
