Akh Ararat Dagh

I tried uploading these yesterday but had some problems. I know photos of Mt. Ararat are as common as hot dog stands in New York City, but if you can believe, in the 12 years I have been coming and going, I have never caught Ararat on a clear day with camera in hand. So I present to you (drum roll please).......... my first decent photo of Ararat!!!!!!

It still knocks me off my feet every time, I'm not gonna pretend it doesn't. :) Of course I have to appologize to my sister for leaving out Poker Masis since this really was a nice photo in itself. She has taken on the cause of gaining attention for the little guy since he gets so neglected all the time... like in this photo. :)

And just another one for kicks, here's a photo of the Ghazanchetzotz Cathedral in my favorite corner of the world... Shushi:

It was a beautiful moonlit night. As I make time to edit my photos more, I'll try to keep sharing. I'm sure the winter time will allow for MUUUUCH more of this.

Hey Arsineh!Great shots! I love them! I wish I was there to take more pictures like you're doing to add to my collection as well.
(Among other reasons for wanting to be there of course) :) Miss you in the states!

Why 'dagh'?

"Akh Ararat Dagh" is a line from one of the Armenian Navy Band songs... at least, that's what it sounds like.

It's hard to say why Shushi is my favorite corner, but people who have been there understand on some level... it's a meditative/patriotic/peacefullness thing. The world stops for you there.

Hello Arsineh, I don't know if you noticed, this year a lot of "ice age" snow has melted from the Masis Ler. About 20% if "haverzhakan Zyun" on Ararat has melted which has rolled a lot of big rocks from the mountain top down to the villages below. Another sign of global warming.

For the last couple of months Ararat has been covered with haze and smog. I don't know how you were able to get this clear shots.

Good Pics.

Thanks Hamlet. I did notice the lack of snow, yes. I haven't seen Ararat SINCE I took this photo which was in the beginning of August. It was early in the morning, and still luck, but I did go visit where my new apartment is being built (with the Ararat view) last week, and I couldn't even see where Ararat was. It's GROSS!!

Environmental efforts need to be stepped up in this region!
