TURKISH BORDER IS OPEN!!

Wow, this is some huge, crazy news. Even in this slow to wake-up town, the place is abuzz. I went on an early morning walk and people are stunned, excited... it's the end of an era. I was in Republic Square and crowds of ppl were gathered, talking, celebratory. They apparently opened the borders at midnight, without any fanfare, or even an announcement yet, which is coming. The borders have always been ready to open at a moments notice, and you've got to give the rumor mill and Raffi N's sources credit, they knew what was going on. I might try and arrange a trip even for today to visit Kars... drive by Ararat...

To put it mildly, it is a historic day!

Some friends at the MFA has said there were ongoing talks, which were going well thanks to US pressure. I'm glad it has finally happened. Now we don't have to depend on the whims of Georgia any longer...

So I am not crazy! I heard about this as well this morning and at first I didn't know what to think of it. But the people in the shop were all excited and talking about it. Also, my friend who has a son serving right on the Turkish-Armenian border said she had heard about it.
This is one of those moments that I wish I had a car! I am trying to round up a few friends (with car!) to go to Turkey tomorrow.

I posted about this at my blog as well: http://armenianodar.blogspot.com/2006/04/border-with-turkey-is-apparently-open.html

According to Google, seems the border is more open than anybody knew:

I am not too optimistic about this. It might be done on purpose. Believe me, now Turkey will have more levers to press on us than before. To me it means the War is coming soon...
