The Great Ocean Road
I got back from a two day trip along the "Great Ocean Road" last night and once again can say that marketing and planning go a long way in the tourism business. The most impressive site along the road was the Twelve Apostles, which used to be called the Sow and Pigs which was changed for marketing reasons, and which never numbered that close to 12 at all. That area was definitely very impressive, but it was a very very small part of what they call the "Great Ocean Road" and the rest of it was ho-hum for someone who has driven up and down the Pacific Coast Highway so many times.
Also, I saw this Armenian business card in an art supply store I entered here in Melbourne, Australia... such a random Armenia related sighting I had to log it.

Raffi, while not having been in the Melbourne area, I found Australia's east coast scenery compares favorably to that of Pacific Coast Highway here in California. Definitely not ho-hum. Just south of Syndney, if you go there and have any time, Royal National Park has great cliff-top hikes towering over crashing waves below with rushing creeks to leap over as they cut the path and tumble into waterfalls.
I read your blog's "cast" section describing who the people are (http://www.cilicia.com/armo_life-cast.html). In your copious spare time if you update that page sometime, it'd be interesting to know a bit about the recently added current loggers.
Also, I think your idea ("Still looking for good local loggers!") of finding local participants would be worthwhile-- somebody whose family neither went nor came from elsewhere... a "REAL" armenian logger! The blog is great as it stands. But the loggers being americans and canadians and such (even though certainly also armenian), are people I could meet on my own street. I'm left with the frustration (necessary I suppose) that, for having come to the blog to find out about Armenia, I can only approach so close and no further because of the cultural filtration of the posts, given who the posters are bless their hearts.
I know, for this it would be up to me to learn armenian and find a blog in that language. Are there some??
Hi David - this scenery was west of Melbourne - I have heard good things about the coast south of Sydney (from Lena - we might check it out next month) and about the western coast of Australia as well... just thought that Great Ocean Road was quite exaggerated, as only a small stretch was great.
You're right about the cast page - I noticed it recently and was a bit undecided as to where I should update it, on Cilicia, or on Armeniapedia. Then I forgot :-)
Of course locals would have a very different perspective, but I've asked a few and none seem interested... it seems like a cultural difference to me. Maybe I should ask some younger adults/students.
There are no blogs written in Armenian only. You'll get an Armenian entry now and again, but that's as far as it's gotten. Actually, I really wish there were a few - and that they were short, well written and interesting. I can't think of better practice for beginner Armenian reading...
Raffi,
How long are you in Australia for ?
I gather there is a very large Hay comnmunity and churches in Sydney. Do you intend to visit them and log the photos too??
Have asafe journey.
Garabed
I would like to add my little bit in on the "Great Ocean Road" debate, it is "Great", nobody believe what Raffi has to say. Raffi you still have a week with us, don't play down our beautiful coastline otherwise I will hurt your avocado's.
You have seen so many beautiful things, wildlife close up (white tipped rock wallaby's). Remember you didn't want to go camping with us to the high country, the great ocean road was more interesting.....hmmmm
Love your Cus
Aline
Look you are biased and infected with the vicious strain of Ozzy nationalism. Give it up! And yes, the white tipped rock wallaby's were great, but not as great as the Koala that almost fell on your head... I was hoping for some more white tips on the great road though... hmmmm.....
Hi Garabed, I'm taking my time here and hope to get to see some of the Armenian things in town. I'll share if I get a chance to. I will be hanging with some of the Sydney Armenians, that should be cool.

OzzyY - Shouldnt that be Aussy> To my knowledge Ozzy comes from Northeren England not from Australia.
Hi Raffi,
I am originally from Melbourne Australia. I am glad you are in my home country and hope everyone is treating you kindly.
I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to drop into the Armenian church. Our community is small but will welcome you with open arms.
I think it will be a great opportunity to promote your website too. I have been following it for so long now and only wish other fellow Armenians at home can too.
Leave your cards at the church hall. Although I am far I will ensure they go up for everyone to see.
All the Best!
Rita
Hi Rita - too bad I fly out of Melbourne this Saturday, it would have been good to hang with the local Armos (aside from famiy and friends). I will try in Sydney - but it will depend on how easy it would be to get around...
Actually Anonymous, we are both wrong... according to wikipedia it is Aussie ;-)
