Ice skating rink opens...
And here I thought I was done with pictures for the year a couple of logs ago... but I walked by as the new outdoor ice skating rink was opened in the pond next to the Opera. Pretty cool, eh? El presidente was there, lots of passerbys. Later on most of the people left, and a couple of young girls (14ish?) were skating like pros... I was quite impressed, while a couple of boy ran around sliding on the ice in their sneakers.
And yes, the fog finally lifted enough (as you can see from the pic) for the Zvartnots flights to resume a couple of days ago.

Is there a Hockey League in Armenia??????
All you Canadian-Armenians... you can now move to Armenia!!!!! Hockey Night in Armenia is alive!!! Is there an Armenian version of Don Cherry?
Looks cool, and fun!
I really want to visit Armenia in the winter. I'll be going next summer, won't get to see the snow. :(
I used to be made fun of for simply being one of those typical Canadians when I brought my skates to Armenia, but glad to see a rink that opened down the street from me. :-)
Apparently it will be open around the clock, since the security guys don't want to leave the place unattended.
anonymous there actually IS an Armenian Hockey Federation ... this is their site ... http://www.icehockeyarmenia.com/
Reportedly, about $1mln was spent on this. Wouldn't it have been more sensible to spend that money on the army?
there is NO way that rink cost 1 million US dollars to make. a top quality 1.000 seat full size covered rink costs around 1.5 million. thats just a joke outdoor small one, that would cost 10.000 at most.
