Dubai

Just thought I'd do a quick post from the Dubai airport since I have my laptop and there's wireless internet (freeee!). So one more flight (and likely sleepless night) and I'll be in Australia. Tata was on my flight, and this well known Armenian comedian whose name I forget - Hrant I think.

Last night the movie Mer Pag 3 opened. It's the one I posted a photo of them filming. I took a pass, but I had seen a commercial for it and it looked like it had possibility. Yesterday was relatively warm in Yerevan, but it was quite wet and rainy. Almost no traces of the snow remain.

Hehe, I just tried to access the "best of" Craigslist - where people write what is usually meant to be funny, but certainly can be explicit... and got the following message:

We apologize the site you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates.

I remembered that hetq.am is also reportedly blocked, and checked. Sure enough, it's the same message.

Why is Hetq Online blocked?

Hetq Online is blocked in the UAI because of its ongoing investigations into illegal child and women trafficking into Dubai.

Wow... that's so weird to me. Sites blocked... is it good or bad? I'm not sure yet.

It can't possibly be good to have restricted speech. It should be up to the individuals to descide what they want and don't want to see on their laptops.

Yes, freedom of expression doesn't exist in the UAE, all hypocrisy.
It;s even funnier when you read on the local newspaper in the first page: "The UAE will remain an oasis of freedom, democracy and coexistence, and a platform for the honest world [...]"
Anyway I can't wait next year to leave this place and go to Armenia.
It would be nice if I could get some helping hands from those already settled there so i wouldnt get lost :)
Anyway, feel free to write to : dooky007@hotmail.com to stay in touch.

Thanks, Dan

this comment is for Der Hova's "Clips, Rink, Vacations" since there is no comment section there.

i think the social awareness video is GREAT.. where will it be shown? Perhaps there can be more videos shot geared towards talking about better eating habits perhaps using the cigarette money on food, and working out so that we don’t have a nation of young men that look like recent genocide survivors as they do now.. even our sports teams (soccer) team members have a complete lack of training with weights and it shows on the field. Of course a video teaching yerevantsis how to wait in line at stores and elsewhere would be great too as they currently act like animals that just fled zoo.
