Babymania
Vayk is the luckiest one out of our 3 kids since he will have not one, not two but FIVE playmates of his own age; two Lebanese, the other Canadian, one Australian-German another American.
Lots of young Armenian couple friends are having babies. This is a good sign. However, this is not enough to repopulate Armenia. I wish the Government (an why not, the Diaspora) would devise a plan to encourage the growth of the birthrate and immigration. Although it seems more Arabs, Iranians and Indians are migrating here to study/work, I would think it would be perhaps a good idea to have some more repast to join us.

How about local, armenian playmates? Or they don't qualify?
um, the government, the diaspora, the this, the that...why not us. why don't we each individually devise a plan to reverse emigration, and reinforce birthing. of course, it is easy to talk about having babies when you have a fat corporate job, you have emergency cash flow from mom and dad, in addition to non-necessities...but, when you're living in a border village, with no heat (although this could be conducive to child conception), no light, and water, the last thing you think about is another mouth to feed. Let's fix this economy and political system first, and population growth will follow. genius, isn't it?!
second anonymous the Muslims dont seem to care about that stuff. that's why we are surrounded by million and millions of turks and azeri turks.
Sending your kid to an expat kindergarten is not the best way to promote diaspora repatriation. It looks like you don't see your kid's long-term future in this country. Then why should other diasporans take your advice?
well, that's why the turks and the azeris have a higher rate of people living under poverty, with the turks being a more fractious nation-state...now, don't get me wrong, if all want to agree to have a nation of poor people who are more apt at emigrating, as opposed to building a viable country, then by all means, let's do it. i'm never one to argue against, reproduction...oh, and did i mention Armenian orphanages filled with one-parent orphans. Oh, I'm sorry, I must've skipped over that tid bit. sorry!
If only the emigration could be stopped that would be enough to develop the country. Probably more than 90% of people who leave Armenia would prefer to stay and 98% who emigrated would like to return.
I can not talk about anybody than myself. I emigrated from Armenia in 93 returned in 98 for a year, returned in 2003 as a highly qualified expert in a much demanded field. I emigrated few months ago to a place where there are more prospects and where I would be able to earn enough to establish my household. In Armenia there are not enough opportunities because it is very corrupt, the house prices are very high and it is harder for a young family to buy a house ( mortgage rate is 14% house prices in yerevan are highre than in many EU countries (new entrants)).
I know it is a buble that will burst sometimes soon, but it is not helpful for young families that what to establish themselvs.
I am not sure if I will repartiare once more since I am not getting younger.Maybe some of the bloggers know me but i will stay as anon.
anonymous about mass reproduction in poverty, name one country that produces kids like rabbits yet lives quite well off. Armenians are too smart to reproduce too much if they think they are not capable enough to take care of the kids, financially. our neighbors have other plans, they don't think like us.
Ok
Since there is more than one anonymous commenting on this blog to specify this is directed to the always neative/pessimist one:
Vayk has also armenian local playmates but since this log is read mostly by diasporans, Raffi suggested names from diverse backgrounds to tell them (the diasporans) that it is possible to groww up here and have a decent life. By the way the private kintergarden where our kids are going is 80% local armenians because believe it or not local parents look also for a good quality care for their kids.
DO we always have to EXPLAIN everything to you !!!
Vayk's mom
Oh by the way, I forgot to mention:
Amassia, my oldest one is 5, and guess what next year she has to go to school, an armenian local school.
And to clear things for the anonymous guys who think they know everything about everyone (very typical!) Our parents are not rich, we don't have a cash flow for emergencies, we have a big and nice student debt that we have not started paying yet(to do that we have to go back to Canada and HAve a decent job!) and we don't own a house (like most locals!) Some people think we're crazy living in Armenia almost not making money but we think it is best for us and our kids to live in an environment where people are still human and call us idealists or hippies but we believe that we have to be present in building Armenia and contributing to its future in our daily efforts!fsio
LAra
Pareeeeev Lara!
Garodtsank ;)
See you this summer!
Thanks Lara, if I weren't on the road I'd have deleted that jerks comment (now it seems to be a moot point). I don't know where these asses get the idea that they should hide behind their anonymity and on top of that be presumtive and judgemental SOBs.
i am sick of these diasporans who are sitting on their &%$!!#@ somewhere other than armenia and judging what we do here...
here's an idea... move here and live the life you want us to live for you... be the person you want us to be...
that way everyone is happy.
