The Cube
Tonight was the debut of a new television show called The Cube. It's basically a copy of the American reality show Big Brother.
The show airs on both Armenia TV and TV5 channels owned by CS Media City (the company which Diaspora philanthropist Gerard Cafesdjian has a major share in.) It also airs 24/7 on Super System, which I believe is also owned by CS Media City. The Super System cable/satellite costs $200 plus $20/month. The majority of the channels are in Russian with a few in English.
A lot of money was spent on the set of The Cube, and all the cameras are shooting in High Definition.
Unfortunately, since a few of the players on the show are Russians, 90% of what you hear is not in Armenian. I thought it would've been more interesting if all the players were actual Armenians, a mix of both local and Diaspora Armenians.

Ok for some of us who don't watch TV.. what's Big Brother? (so what's The Cube?) lol sorry... i have no idea!
another use for a russian degree.....haha
Shooosh, a bunch of strangers live together under one roof for a month. (I think Big Brother usually lasts about 3 months.)
One by one they are evicted with votes collected by the players.
Last one left wins a prize. (I think when the last two are left the ones evicted decide who should win.)
Big Brother winners get $500,000. (I wonder what the The Cube's prize is.)
Those idiots spend that kind of money for a show while the rest of the country (besides Yerevan) has limited access to any Armenian channels. In Ararat region there are more Turkish and Iranian channels than there are Armenian. No one at "Armenia TV" seems to take responsibly for lack of reception in the regions. Perhaps "Armenia TV" should be renamed to "Yerevan TV".
You might want to redirect your comment to Mr. Cafesdjian. I doubt he's aware of the situation you mentioned. The man is an awesome philanthropist, but I really believe he is being taken advantage of.
I've said it before ... why was that much money spent on a top of the line recording studio at Armenia TV? Who are they recording? Madonna? There isn't a good enough reason for it. Again, it's chtesutiun. How many HDTV cameras do they have on the set of The Cube? Who else in Armenia has one?
You are right. Cafesjian's millions are used for enriching a corrupt and dishonest local SOB and spreading pro-Kocharian propaganda. Have you ever watched their news? It's horrible. Fox News is the pinnacle of truth and objectivity compared to Armenia TV. Cafesjian is doing a huge disservice to this country.

I think its great that such facilities now exist in Armenia, its just a shame they aren't ever going to be used to produce free and independent news unless something major changes. I am surprised that Mr Cafesjian is allowing his money to be spent on what is effectively Kocharyans propaganda mouthpiece. I thought that perhaps some pre conditions may have been imposed perhaps even allowing A1Plus to produce the news independently etc. Perhaps Mr Cafesjian trusts Mr Kocharyan - I'm not sure, it's not for us to say, but I just hope that this amazing facility will be put to better uses than things like "the cube". It is about time some HDTV cameras were used on Armenian tv, watching h1 my eyes ache, the cameras are so awful.
Hey, I have read all the comments about "The Cube" and Armenia TV and stuff on this page. I agree and disagree with some of the points, which I suppose were made mostly by Spyurkahays;however, it’s not, what I want to discuss at the moment... I just think that before you start to criticize and especially talk crap about something or somebody, you should first of all question your sources of information, check their credibility and not just move and make statements based on the gossips that you have picked up here and there like it happens most of the time. You should make sure that your information is from reliable source and have a clear understanding of what you’re talking about. I think it’s very important because I often notice that people here write about something that they are not really aware of or are just misinformed…
The cameras used in the Cube are not HD cameras...but simple, inexpensive ones...
big brother is not a american show but, Dutch.
