The Road to Home

That's the name of Vartan Gregorian's autobiography. I have not reached page 100 yet, but I am spellbound by this tale. The amount of kindness and generosity he has been the recipient of from other Armenians, the number of amazing people he has met, the descriptions of growing up Armenian in different places during an interesting period... so far I am very impressed. He has accomplished a great deal in his life, and no doubt is showing others similiar compassion and generosity, as evidenced by his offer to post bail for the Turkish scholar now on trial in Yerevan...

A crazy thing it is, being Armenian. I have to thank Thelma Tajirian for the book :-)

Yes, that book and that man is something else. One of the best and inspiring biographies that I have ever read, auto or otherwise.

Indeed it is a crazy thing.

Just started reading the book myself. Thanks for bringing it up on your blog.

I recently read a portrait of him in a German book. A very interesting man, who has something to say.
For those who read German, the book is called "Portraet einer Hoffnung - Die Armenier" ("Portraits of Hope - the Armenians"), edited by Huberta von Voss. A very interesting book, I enjoyed it a lot. I plan to write some more about this book soon in my log on the Expat site (have to find time for it, though).

VG is an inspiration, especially to librarians. I love the dust jacket on the book. My review of it was published in Library Quarterly, July 2004.
