The price of a marshrutka ride is back to 100 drams. Apparently the huge amount of protests after the sudden increase on Wednesday is the reason for overturning the decision. People simply refused to pay 130 drams and paid 100 instead. I don't know if the protests are the real reason for returning to the old fare, though, because Armenian authorities usually don't care too much about public opinion.

Armenia Liberty has this today on the continuing marshrutka-soap. To be continued?

I think that the discontent in this case actually worried them! And of course a couple of days ago they had announced there was not a single complaint. Who do they think they are fooling?

I think the authorities are starting to figure out that they can't do ANYTHING they want. Shikahogh was another example..

I hope you guys are right as it's about time the authorities realize that there are actually people living in this country who are affected by the decisions they take.
I have a feeling, though, that after a while - and maybe somewhat more carefully introduced to the public - there will be another (attempt at) a price-increase. But maybe I am just being too cynical here...
