Golden Apricot
Last night I went to the opening of the Golden Apricot. They played the Armenian movie Mariam, which is not going to make it onto my list of favorites. The coolest part was the Sasuntsi Davit Statue opener (where MGM had lions roars), so that's not saying much. Seeing a bunch of places in Yerevan on the big screen was fun too, even when they're only outside. Outdoors there was live music and a pretty festive atmosphere, and the lighting on fire of that same metal horse I logged about a couple of months back.

I wouldn't share the same opinion on the film. It is the best Armenian film that I ever saw and i consider it as a world class film. The development was slow and very detailed with delicate purpose on each scene about which the audience finds out only at the en, but again not about everything since it leaves some major question for you to figure out yourself.
The acting was great.
It is worth to note that it had some special effects.
The only cons were the hot room, the people who were there for show off and were talking all the time to get attention, it was hard to get to your sit (crowed on the doorway), the English voice over.
The film doesn’t belong to Hollywood school which unfortunately most of the people are used to. So I wouldn't recommend it to people who like fast, crime & sex Movies. It is good that you cant find much of those type of films at the Film Festivals, maybe only on Oscar nominations.

They've got quite a few films, both competing and non-competing.
I wish I was in Yerevan for this.
World class? Really? I was not distracted by the noise or the teeeerrible voice over. In fact, at one point I was amazed so many Armenians could keep quiet, there wasn't a peep to be heard where I was sitting. I have enjoyed many a not-Hollywood movie, but I just did not like the movie. That seemed to be the consensus as well of people I spoke to, from cinema buffs to directors... but I'm glad you liked it at least! :-)
