New message boards...
Well Hagop - speaking of messages disappearing, the message board got hacked again and everything is lost again. I got an email from my site host saying I should update the message board script, because a new security flaw was found, and sure enough when I went to the board everything was gone... Every time they announce a new flaw, the Turks go out and look for Armenian sites using that script and do as much damage as they can. The script I was using was the most popular one in the world, so I have switched to an obscure one which I suspect they will not check for security flaws all the time - so hopefully the problem is solved, but who knows, right?
Great fun to deal with while I'm on vacation... (or in Armenia for that matter with it's crappy internet)

Crappy internet?
Raff, for the past 2.5 hours I've been trying to do a simple bank transfer which would take only a few seconds with a DSL connection.
I used a friends Xter.net account and signed into my account in less than a minute (compared to over 3 hours through Netsys.) I'm guessing it was a security issue, maybe?
Raff, what provider do you connect through?
There are quite a few ISP's in Armenia now, and I've noticed that each one works quite differently in different parts of the city. For instance, Arminco (which is one of the most popular ones) is extremely pathetic at my place, but quite fast at my relatives.
Sorry to hear about that Kojian. I’ve had similar hacking attempts with the ABBANKR.com website I manage. According to Go-daddy, there have been numerous attempts to user-pass code bomb that site. They asked me to create a stronger password (combination of upper and lower cap letters as well as numbers) which has seemed to discourage. Go-Daddy also stated that these attempts were generated from the city of Baku, Azerbaijan. I’m sad to hear that. These people are probably the same hooligans that Google listed ABBANKR.com as a sports center in Azerbaijan (instead of Artsakh, NKR, Armenia).
Listen guys I know soon enough you will all have a speedier Internet connection line, possibly even DSL. KT is lobbing aggressively to jump in that market as well. It’s just a matter of time. Till then, just make sure you have a good read next to you while surfing the web. (little chuckle)… . My apologies :- \
Ah, the hacking. The ANCA website was down for 5 days right when they were starting a significant webfax campaign a couple months ago. The weird thing is... when they started campaigns for efforts on the Darfur Genocide, they started seeing attempted attacks from Sudan.
I use externet, and it is sometimes ok, and sometimes absolutely worthless - it can take an hour to download a two sentence email. I unfortunately don't think any good new company will enter the market, since short of a re-re-negotiated ArmenTel contract, the internet monopoly (which was recently expanded to include all VoIP) is solidly in their hands, so all lines will be incredibly expensive as long as it pleases them...
As for the hacking - let's see if the new, obscure board does the trick. I think the second a security flaw in the old, popular script was announced, they went from Armenian site to Armenian site checking for the script and immediately hacking it. I wonder why they have to announce these flaws in this way - isn't there a better way??? (I can't think of one, I just can't believe this is ideal)
