Come oooon Arsineh's magic powers...
Woohooo! I'm sitting here reading these posts about System of a Down, and wishing I could hear their new album, and whaddaya know? Their new song B.Y.O.B. (bring your own bomb) comes in on EuroMTVs top 10 countdown at number 7. And I like it :-) "Why do they always send in the poor" to war, indeed? I thought one of the best scenes in Fahrenheit 9/11 was when Moore tried to get congressmen in D.C. to actually send their own kids to Iraq.
Oh, and can I say, these guys really need to stick Yerevan on their tour!!! (what the hell, wishing out loud worked for Arsineh - maybe they'll play here next Tuesday - I already got the video when I wished I could hear them :-)

Raff.. rumor has it, SOAD will be in Armenia fall of 2005. I'll keep you posted man....
Wow - your powers really do work! I hope I'm around when they come... it's going to be a riot!
Not the case. Looks like they are waiting until the end of their world tour... however long that will be... but they do have plans to go to Armenia in some fashion.
From interviewing those involved with the rock scene in Armenia, because the market is so small, SOAD are waiting until they can attract an audience from neighboring countries as well as Russia. Not sure if that's the case but these guys in Yerevan say they are in touch with the band and this what they have said.
Unless they plan to play a small club (or a festival with an audience of 500-1,000 people), it is unlikely that they could stage a larger concert in Armenia without also planning for an influx of foreign visitors as well. Still, that would be a positive step for promoting tourism.
I suppose they can advertise in Turkey as well, seeing that I doubt they would ever go there. I know they have a lot of fans there. Hey, if thousands of Armenians from Armenia go to Turkey for vacations a year, why can't they come here, right?
They say that there is a growing feeling among some Turks that the Genocide happened. If culture can accelerate that process then I think the idea of young Turks coming to Armenia to listen to a band sing about the Genocide is a positive step. There should be an internal demand for Genocide recognition inside Turkey and I know some human rights activists in the country who believe that recognition is vital for Turkey to evolve democratically and also, to protect the rights of its existing minorities. I guess this is also the logic of some European calls for recognition and one that we shouldn't overlook.
BTW: System of a Down wanted to perform in Turkey a few years ago but decided against it for obvious reasons. See: http://www.nyrock.com/interviews/2000/system.asp
Hmmmm... pan-armenian games, lots of armos from all over the world... hmmmm SOAD concert..more incentive for MORE armos to come to the STAN and to the games? hmmmmmm (HINT! HINT!)
