Armenian Genocide Observance on Capitol Hill
The events in DC began last Saturday, but I'll get an overall log in later. For now, here's a nice shot from last night's Observance. It was very successful and many Senators and Representatives came and spoke on the importance of Genocide recognition. Sen. John Kerry was the highlight of the evening as he got a standing ovation (the others did, too, but he came in like a rock star). Too bad he wasn't speaking as President last night.
More later.
More later.

Did you get a chance to shake his hand?
No, I was too busy shoving my camera in his face... I got a log of nice pictures of him, and the others in general. I'll post them all soon. Had I known he was coming, I would have stood at the door through which he entered (where all the Cong/Sens entered) and where I was stationed most of the night... however, I was galavanting elsewhere until I realized he walked in and quickly jumped over all the Turkish photographers who were getting in my way all night. He spoke well. After a while, you hear so many political speeches, it all starts to sound the same and you know they are acting, whether the truly believe in what they are saying or not. I don't know that I believe Kerry believes so passionately about the genocide, but he delivered a moving speech about America's involvement in the relief efforts during the genocide and that it started in Massachusetts. That probably moved him a bit too.
Kerry is a political machine, yet a good man underneath it all. Was the wife with him?
No wife, just the machine. Demo went well yesterday... Vigil is going strong, tomorrow is New York!
Thanks for sharing.
Boston, too, observes the Genocide this weekend.
