Driving around Armenia, you get used to seeing massive factories, residential neighborhoods, bridges, tunnels, and other infrastructure such as a monorail which were begun during Soviet times but never completed due to the collapse. They have been rotting for over a decade now and some of them will have to be torn down eventually. Some of them however, like the bridges, tunnels and resorts you wish could be completed. Last night I heard that one of them, a massive, nice looking resort on a great spot on Lake Sevan has been bought from the government, and a huge amount of work has been accomplished already. It is going to be a very inexpensive 5-star hotel, with casino, tennis courts, pool in the shape of lake Sevan, waterfall, very cheap campgrounds, etc, etc. A friend dropped by there this week on a trip around lake Sevan. This sounds like it will turn out fantastic, and it is being done by a local guy who I don't even want to know where he got the money from. But it is so great that he is spending it here, on a long-term investment. I hope that place will be crawling with local and diasporan Armenians, Russians, Iranians, Georgians and westerners soon. I think some rooms are already open for $25 per night per person. It is on the road to Kavar, and you can't miss it!
